SSN Validator is an independent educational website. It explains published Social Security Number format rules.
What this website is
SSN Validator (ssnvalidator.org) is not affiliated with the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, or any other government agency. A result is not proof that a number was issued or that it belongs to a named person. What each label means is on the Disclaimer.
What the services do
You can check a number you already have a lawful reason to look at, usually your own number or a clearly marked public example. The services compare the digits with published reservation rules: area 000, area 666, areas 900–999, group 00, and serial 0000 are patterns SSA does not assign as Social Security Numbers. A 900–999 value may be classified as an ITIN or ATIN pattern. A widely published placeholder may be classified as a sample.
On 25 June 2011 SSA began assigning new numbers at random. The first three digits on a new card are not a birth state. Historic area material on this website is a lookup against the older allocation system, not a map of where a person was born or lives.
Educational pages on this website explain the same published rules. Worksheets are educational. They are not tax advice and not a filing product. If a page and an official publication differ, the official publication controls.
What we do not do
The services do not run SSNVS, E-Verify, CBSV, or eCBSV. They do not match a name to a number, generate numbers, correct a record, replace a card, pay a benefit, or confirm work authorization.
Official verification, card replacement, and benefit questions belong at ssa.gov. Taxpayer identification questions belong at irs.gov. Identity-theft reports belong at IdentityTheft.gov.
How a check is handled
Format checks run in your browser. Digits you type are not uploaded. That handling is described in the Privacy Policy.

Questions about the website
Corrections, privacy questions, and other notes about this website can be sent from the Contact Us page. That form is not a channel for a Social Security Number, and it is not a way to reach SSA.
