1. Acceptance of terms

1.1 Binding agreement

By accessing, browsing, or using ssnvalidator.org (the “Service,” “Website,” or “Site”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). In these Terms, “we,” “us,” and “the operator” meanSSN Validator, the independent educational website at ssnvalidator.org.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must stop using the Site. Continued use after we post a change is acceptance of the changed Terms.

1.2 Incorporated policies

These Terms incorporate, by reference, the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer. Together with these Terms they describe what the services on this website do, what they do not do, and how the Site treats information. If a sentence here and a sentence on one of those pages appear to conflict, the more specific limit controls: the Disclaimer on official status and Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”) use; the Privacy Policy on collection of data; these Terms on license, conduct, and liability.

1.3 Who these Terms cover

These Terms apply to every visitor who uses the services on this website. An account is not required. “You” means the person using the Site, and any organization on whose behalf that person is acting.

1.4 The services on this website

The services on this website apply published Social Security Number format and reservation rules in your browser and publish educational material about those rules. They do not verify that a number was issued, match a name to a number, generate numbers, or provide professional, tax, employment, or credit advice. We do not operate a people-search, a reverse lookup, or an official verification desk.

1.5 What the services are not

The Site is not the Social Security Administration (“SSA”), the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), or any other government agency. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by those agencies.

The Site is not an FCRA consumer reporting agency and does not issue a consumer report. Official name-and-number matches for employers run through SSA programs such as SSNVS, CBSV, or eCBSV. Work-authorization checks run through E-Verify. Those channels are not the services on this website.

1.6 Who may use the services

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that age is higher, to use the services on this website. If you use the services for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

1.7 Availability

The services may be interrupted, limited, or withdrawn. We may change or stop them at any time. We do not promise that the site will be available without interruption.

2. Intellectual property and use license

2.1 Original content

Original content on the Site, including explanatory text, headings, interface copy, diagrams we created, layout, and the selection and arrangement of material, is owned by the operator of SSN Validator or used under license and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The presentation of the services on this website is part of this project.

2.2 Public facts and government publications

Many facts the services apply are public. Government agencies publish reservation rules, randomization changes, historic allocations, taxpayer-identifier patterns, and wage and tax figures. We do not claim to own those publications or the underlying public facts.

What we do claim is the original writing, the compilation, the way results are labeled on this Site, and the software that applies those facts. Restating a public rule in your own words is not a license to copy our pages or to present our classification output as your product.

2.3 Limited personal, non-commercial license

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the services on this website for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes.

The license does not include:

Resale, sublicensing, or commercial reuse of the Service or its contents
Republishing our text or interface copy as your own
Offering our classification output as a paid API, plugin, or white-label product
Collecting, aggregating, or systematically copying the Site for a competing service
Removing attribution, notices, or the Disclaimer that travels with the services

Short quotation of a passage, with a link back to the source page, for criticism, comment, or education is the kind of use copyright law already allows. Wholesale copying is not.

2.4 Automated copying and competing products

You agree that you will not use robots, spiders, scrapers, crawlers, or other automated systems to extract content from the Service for a competing Social Security Number generator, “valid SSN” list, people-search, reverse lookup, identity-data broker, or similar product. You also agree not to:

Harvest material from the Site to power another lookup service
Reverse engineer the services in order to mint unused or valid-looking numbers
Bypass technical limits in order to process large files
Frame the Site, impersonate it, or present our pages as an official SSA or IRS service

We may block automated access and reserve all remedies for copying or reuse that violates this section. Linking to a public page is allowed. Mirroring the Site is not.

2.5 Names we do not claim

“Social Security,” “Social Security Number,” “SSNVS,” “E-Verify,” “ITIN,” “EIN,” “FICA,” and related official names belong to the United States government or the agencies that use them. Our use is descriptive. It does not imply sponsorship.

3. User conduct

3.1 Intended use

The services on this website are for learning published format rules and for checking a number you already have a lawful reason to look at in this way, typically your own number or a clearly marked public example. A result is not permission to process an employee file, a credit file, or anyone else’s identifiers.

3.2 Prohibited use of numbers

You agree not to use the Service to find, guess, fabricate, or complete another person’s Social Security Number. You agree not to use the Service to generate unused or valid-looking numbers, to test whether a stranger’s number works, or to support fraud, impersonation, or identity theft.

Do not submit a list of other people’s numbers. Do not send a Social Security Number to us, by any channel or by putting digits in a URL. See the Contact Us page and the Privacy Policy.

3.3 Prohibited decisions and FCRA

You agree not to use any result or material on this Site to make or support a decision about employment, credit, insurance, housing, tenant screening, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA or similar law. You also agree not to present this Site as official verification.

3.4 Technical abuse

You agree not to:

Disrupt, overload, or place an unreasonable burden on our servers, host, or network
Probe, scan, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other visitors, or the underlying infrastructure
Introduce malware or other harmful code
Circumvent technical limits or other protective measures
Use the Site in violation of applicable law

3.5 Your responsibility

You are responsible for the digits you type, the device you use, and the decisions you make after you read a result. We do not watch the keyboard. If you are unsure whether a use is lawful, do not use the services for that purpose.

4. Disclaimer of warranties

4.1 As-is, as-available

The services on this website, including every result and every page of educational material, are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SSN Validator disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, accurate, complete, current, secure, or free of errors or harmful components.

4.2 Results

A result is a format classification. It may be incomplete or wrong. It does not mean SSA assigned the number, that a card exists, that the number is active, or that it belongs to anyone you have in mind. It is not a live SSA query, and it is not confirmation that the IRS issued a taxpayer identifier. What each label means is described in the Disclaimer.

4.3 Educational material

Material on the Site can lag an official update. We do not warrant that every sentence remains current the day you read it. Worksheets and calculations are educational. They are not tax advice, not a filing product, and not a substitute for the official publication or a qualified professional. If our material and an official publication differ, the official publication controls. Use of the services does not create an attorney-client relationship, a tax-advisor relationship, an accountant-client relationship, or any other professional relationship. For a new or replacement card, a benefit, or official verification, use ssa.gov. For taxpayer identifiers and employment-tax rules, use irs.gov.

5. Limitation of liability

5.1 Damages we do not accept

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SSN Validator and the operators, contributors, and affiliates of this Site shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including without limitation:

Loss of profits, goodwill, data, or other intangible losses
Damages from the use or inability to use the Service
Damages from relying on a result or on educational material
Damages from an employment, credit, insurance, housing, or other decision you or a third party made after using the Site
Damages from a tax position based on educational material on the Site
Damages from identity theft, fraud, or misuse of a number you typed or sent despite these Terms
Damages from advertisements, analytics scripts, or third-party sites

5.2 Liability cap

In no event shall our total liability to you for all damages, losses, and causes of action exceed the amount you paid, if any, to access the Service, or one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100), whichever is less. The services on this website are offered free of charge. The amount paid is therefore none, and the cap is the lesser of that amount and US$100.

5.3 Jurisdictions that limit these clauses

Some places do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of incidental or consequential damages. In those places our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where that exclusion is forbidden.

6. Advertisements and third-party websites

6.1 Google AdSense and Google Analytics

The Service may display advertisements from third-party networks, including Google AdSense, and may use Google Analytics. Those products are operated by Google. They may set cookies or collect device and usage data under Google’s own terms and privacy policies. What we collect ourselves is described in the Privacy Policy.

6.2 No endorsement

We do not endorse, approve, or assume responsibility for any advertisement. An ad on ssnvalidator.org is not a recommendation that you buy the product, enter personal data, or type a Social Security Number into the advertiser’s page. Your dealings with advertisers, including payment, delivery, and privacy, are solely between you and the advertiser. We are not liable for loss or damage from those dealings or from the mere presence of the ads.

6.3 Third-party websites

The Site links to third-party resources we do not own or control, including ssa.gov, irs.gov, and IdentityTheft.gov. A link is a convenience, not an endorsement, and not a promise that the destination still says what it said when we cited it.

You should read the terms and privacy policy of any third-party site you visit. An advertisement is not part of the services on this website.

7. Indemnification

7.1 Your obligation

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SSN Validator, the operators of this Site, and their affiliates, licensors, and service providers, and their officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, successors, and assigns, from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to:

Your violation of these Terms
Your use of the Service, including digits or other content you type, paste, or transmit
Your use of a result to guess, fabricate, or misuse another person’s identifier
Your use of the Service for an FCRA purpose or any employment, credit, insurance, or housing decision
Your violation of a third-party right, including a privacy or intellectual-property right
Any claim that your use of the Service caused damage to a third party

7.2 Cooperation

We may assume exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification. You agree to cooperate with that defense. This section survives the end of your use of the Service.

8. Modifications to terms

8.1 Right to update

We may modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice before the new terms take effect, typically by updating this page and changing the “Last updated” date. What is material is decided in our reasonable discretion.

8.2 Continued use

By continuing to access or use the Service after a revision takes effect, you agree to the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.

Review this page from time to time. The date at the top is the date these Terms were last revised.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction

9.1 Applicable law

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules that would produce a different result. Nothing in this section limits a consumer protection right that cannot be waived where you live.

9.2 Venue

Any legal action or proceeding relating to your access to or use of the Service shall be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction. You agree to that venue to the extent the law allows.

9.3 Waiver, severability, and entire agreement

Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of that right. If a court holds a provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. They supersede prior discussions about the same subject. Headings are for reading convenience only.

We do not warrant that the content is appropriate or available in every country. You are responsible for complying with local law where you access the Site.

9.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a transfer of the website. These Terms bind permitted successors.

10. Termination

10.1 How access ends

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms or if we believe the Service is being used to guess numbers, overload the host, or impersonate an official channel. You may stop using the Service at any time. Stopping use ends your license. We do not store Social Security Numbers.

10.2 What survives

On termination, your license to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and this survival clause, remain in effect.
